Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

 

1.              Four (4) positive cases.

-       One (1) person was a direct contact of a positive case

-       Three (3) persons contracted through community transmission and detected through advanced screening protocols.

 

As of 5th June, the cumulative number of positive cases of COVID-19 is 164 and is broken down as follows:

Active – 70 (Symptomatic – 1; Asymptomatic – 69)

Recovered – 93

Deceased – 1

2.              The deadline for displaced (unemployed) Caymanians in the tourism industry to apply for monetary assistance has been extended to 11:59pm 7th June 2020. The allotted stipend is $1,000 per month for the next 3 months.

3.              The Cayman Islands Defence Regiment is currently actively recruiting members. To become a member of the Regiment, persons must be:

-       BOT citizens, British citizens, Irish citizens, and Commonwealth citizens permanently resident in the Cayman Islands

-       18 – 50 years old

-       Able to pass a written exam, physical exam, and interview

4.              The Airbridge flight to the UK on 12th June 2020 is “full” but still has a few seats available. To book on this flight, persons should visit www.otairbridge.com.

5.              Emergency Evacuation Charters are scheduled for Ecuador/Mexico on 8th June and Canada on 13th July. These flights are being organised privately and interested persons should look out for further details on social media.
