COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – 7 May 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              Two (2) positive cases.
-       One (1) person had travel history
-       One (1) person had direct contact to a confirmed positive case

As at 7th May, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is EIGHTY (80) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 44 (Symptomatic – 9; Asymptomatic – 33; In-patient – 2)
Recovered – 35
Deceased – 1

2.              Cabinet has approved major changes to the Shelter-in-Place (soft curfew) and hard curfew provisions for Cayman Brac effective this evening. The new regulations specific to Cayman Brac only will be in effect from 7th May – 31st May 2020. The main points of these changes are:
-       There will be a nightly hard curfew of 8pm – 5am for each day of the week.
-       There will be no more 24-hour curfew on Sunday.
-       There will no longer be an alphabetical system restriction on travel during soft curfew hours (5am – 8pm).
-       All water activities including visiting the beaches, fishing from the ironshore, and boating will now be permitted. There can only be two (2) persons per vessel.
-       Persons and businesses must maintain social distancing of 6ft (2m).
-       Groups cannot consist of more than twenty-five (25) persons. This means that churches and service clubs, or other groups can now have meetings but must observe the social distancing requirement.
-       Restaurants can allow dining in outdoor spaces only. Take away is still available.
-       Persons must wear masks in all indoor spaces when the 6ft social distancing requirement is hard to maintain
-       Persons will only be permitted to travel to Cayman Brac after being subject to a 14-day quarantine in a government facility and testing negative for COVID-19.
-       Bars will remain closed until 50% of the population has tested negative or 31st May – whichever is first.
-       Civil Servants, unless expressly required or deemed essential, are still to work remotely from home.

3.              The Emergency Evacuation Charter to the Dominican Republic has been confirmed for 17th May and ticket purchase details will be released tomorrow.

4.              The Emergency Evacuation Flight to Miami has been confirmed and additional details will be announced.

5.              Cabinet has approved a decision to continue the closure of the airports and seaports to cruise ships until 1st September 2020 (or later if extended).
