COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands

Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              One (1) positive case.

As at 4th May, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is SEVENTY-FIVE (75) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 60 (Symptomatic – 31; Asymptomatic – 27; In-patient – 2)
Recovered – 14
Deceased – 1

2.              The nightly hard curfew in Little Cayman will end tomorrow (5th May). In addition to this, the COVID-19 Suppression Regulations (Shelter-in-Place soft curfew) will be amended to include bespoke programmes for Cayman Brac & Little Cayman.
This is because of the rapid screening in the Sister Islands and all tests returning negative results thus far.

3.              Businesses deemed essential in the COVID-19 Suppression Regulations should still apply for a formal exemption letter from the Competent Authority. This application can be submitted by visiting www.exploregov.ky/curfewtime.

4.              The General Registry will recommence issuing hard-copy vital certificates (birth certificates, etc) on Wednesday 6th May 2020.
Persons will be required to request these certificates through the online system by visiting www.ciregistry.gov.ky or www.vitals.ky and select “Hold for Pickup” collection option.
Payment will be required to be made online with a debit/credit card; cash will not be accepted.
After receiving a notification that the order is ready for collection, persons should park at the round-about at the Government Administration Building, stay in your car, and call 244-3101 or 244-3103.

5.              Cabinet will be considering an Order this week to continue the closure of our borders (all airports and seaports) until 1st September 2020.
