COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – 29 May 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

 

1.              One (1) positive case.

-       Contracted through community transmission and contact tracing is under investigation.

 

As of 29th May, the cumulative number of positive cases of COVID-19 is 141 and is broken down as follows:

Active – 72 (Symptomatic – 1; Asymptomatic – 71)

Recovered – 68

Deceased – 1

2.              The Commissioner of Police announced new hard curfew measures which will come in to effect on 1st June 2020 and applies to Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.

For the period of 1st June – 7th June, the nightly hard curfew will be during the hours of 8:00pm – 4:30am.

For the period of 7th June – 22nd June, the nightly hard curfew will be during the hours of 10:00pm – 4:30am.

3.              Amended Shelter-in-Place Regulations will be gazetted today to come in to effect on Monday, 1st June 2020. Some key changes in these regulations are:

Effective 1st June:

-       All construction businesses, retail businesses, and real estate businesses can fully operate

-       Exercise in any public place including government walking tracks/fields

-       Non-contact open air sports permitted (e.g. tennis, golf, etc)

Effective 7th June:

-       Groups of no more than six (6) persons permitted to gather.

-       All persons permitted to visit the beach or fish on shoreline on any day with no restriction on last names.

-       Leisure boating permitted in addition to fishing during the hours of 4:45am to 9:00pm with no more than six (6) persons on board. Boats will still not be allowed to anchor at Rum Point, Starfish Point, Stingray City, or the Sand Bar.

-       Restaurants will be able to offer outdoor dining under the condition that no more than 6 persons be seated at the same table, each table to be 8ft apart, no persons shall be seated at an indoor counter/bar and any other conditions imposed by the Competent Authority.

-       Exercise will be permitted during the hours of 4:45am – 9:00pm.

The alphabet system applied to last names is still in place for essential services (except for restaurants/bars, hospitals, etc) for Monday – Saturday.

4.              The Air-Bridge flight to the United Kingdom will depart on 12th June 2020. The Governor’s Office will contact all those persons registered with information on how to purchase tickets.

A limited number of Caymanians/Permanent Residents will be returning to the Cayman Islands on this flight. The Cayman Islands Government Office in the UK will be assigning these seats to persons registered with the office.

5.              Cayman Airways has arranged several other Emergency Evacuation Charters to Miami and these are scheduled for 5th June, 26th June, 3rd July 2020.
