Update – 15 May 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              One (1) positive case.

As at 15th May, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is NINETY-FOUR (94) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 38 (Symptomatic – 9; Asymptomatic – 29)
Recovered – 55
Deceased – 1

2.              There will be new Shelter-in-Place regulations gazetted today to take effect on 19th May 2020 and will remain in effect until 5:00am on 2nd June 2020. Changes to the regulations include, but are not limited to:
-       The Hard Curfew will remain in place nightly from 8pm – 5am every day of the week.
-       There will no longer be a 24-hour hard curfew on Sunday.
-       Persons will be permitted to exercise 7 days per week. Exercise time allowance will increase to two (2) hours and persons are permitted to drive to exercise.
-       Reopening of hardware stores, car dealerships, garages, boat maintenance, car wash, and maintenance (emergency repairs).
-       The construction development industry will reopen in phases based on the types of projects possessing prior approval from the Department of Planning.

3.              All persons will be required to wear a mask in all enclosed public spaces where social distancing is difficult to maintain.
The proprietor of any business is permitted to deny entry to their establishment for anyone not wearing a mask.

4.              Beaches in Grand Cayman will reopen at 5:00am on Tuesday 19th May for exercise only and for a duration of no more than two (2) hours. The following conditions apply:
-       “Exercise at the beach” includes swimming, snorkelling, fishing from the shoreline, and paddle boarding/kayaking within sight of shore.
-       Persons will only be permitted to visit the beach on their prescribed days based on the surname alphabet system.
-       No picnics or social gatherings of any kind are permitted on the beaches
-       Beaches will be closed to all persons on Sundays of each week

5.              Fishing in a boat will be permitted under the new Shelter-in-Place regulations beginning on 19th May 2020. The following conditions apply:
-       Monday – Saturday only during the hours of 5:15am – 7:00pm
-       No more than two (2) persons per boat
-       No leisure boating trips.

6.              Public Transportation will be permitted under the new Shelter-in-Place regulations beginning on 19th May 2020. The following conditions apply:
-       All public transport vehicles cannot exceed 50% carrying capacity
-       All passengers must wear masks at all times

7.              Strata pools and tennis courts will be accessible under the new Shelter-in-Place regulations beginning on 19th May 2020. The following conditions apply:
-       Social distancing of 6ft and groups of no more than 2 persons UNLESS all persons are living within the same household

8.              An Emergency Evacuation Charter to the Philippines has been confirmed for 23rd May 2020. This flight will stop in London, UK but there will be no disembarkation in London.
The cost of tickets for this repatriation flight is US$1,850.
All passengers will be required to wear masks for the duration of the flight.
