Update – 1 May 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              One (1) positive case.

As at 1st May, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is SEVENTY-FOUR (74) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 63 (Symptomatic – 32; Asymptomatic – 28; In-patient – 3)
Recovered – 10
Deceased – 1

2.              The current soft curfew, hard curfew, and 24-hour full day curfew for Sunday will remain in place until 5:00am on Monday 4th May 2020.
The Commissioner provided an update on the soft curfew (Shelter-in-Place) and hard curfew. The new curfew regulations taking effect from 4th May will be:
-       Soft Curfew (Shelter-in-Place): 5:00am – 8:00pm on Monday – Saturday.
-       Hard Curfew: 8:00pm – 5:00am every night.
-       24-hour Hard Curfew in effect for each Sunday
-       Exercise will be permitted between the hours of 5:15am – 7:00pm.
-       All access to beaches in the Cayman Islands will be closed.
These new curfew regulations will have effect until 5:00am on 15th May 2020.

3.              Banks and other financial institutions for the public will be allowed to open during the hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm.

4.              The following businesses and employees of those businesses will also be permitted to operate during the Shelter-in-Place hours effective Monday 4th May:
-       Courier services for mail or parcels (delivery only)
-       Pet grooming (collection and delivery only)
-       Retail stores (delivery only)
-       Car dealerships (delivery only)
-       Laundry services (collection and delivery only)
-       Mobile car wash
-       Tyre sales/repairs (mobile service/delivery only)
-       Pool maintenance (cleaning & maintaining only)
-       Landscaping or gardening services
-       Pain/chronic pain management practitioners
-       Commercial fishing vessels (crew not allowed to disembark)
-       Fish Market & Farmer’s Market (with special conditions)

5.              Staff or volunteers of educational institutions assisting with the preparation or distribution of educational materials/supplies for students are permitted to do so during Shelter-in-Place hours.
Parents/Guardians needing to collect these materials can only do so on their assigned “letter day”.

6.              Effective 4th May, food deliveries from restaurants will be allowed to take place daily until 10:00pm. The collection of food from restaurants must be done before 7:00pm.

7.              Any hospitality industry business within the public sewerage system of Water Authority – Cayman that have had to close their business due to the curfew measures can contact the Authority regarding their monthly sewerage bill.
The Authority has committed to discounting the monthly sewerage bill for the months of April – June 2020 should usage be reduced at the property.

8.              The Emergency Evacuation Charter to Costa Rica has been confirmed for 8th May 2020. Costa Rican citizens wishing to travel on this charter can contact Cayman Airways directly at 949-2311. The cost of this ticket is US$515.

9.              The Ministry of Health has provided each MLA with disposable masks to distribute within their respective constituency.

10.           The CI Government has bartered 5,000 COVID-19 test kits with St. Lucia in exchange for pipettes needed by the HSA Lab.

11.           The Ministry of Culture will be providing musicians a one-time stipend of CI$1,000.
