COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – March 31 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing
1. TWO (2) POSITIVE CASES.
- These two positive results have no history of travel outside of the Cayman Islands. These cases are the first official cases of community transmission.
As at 31st March, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is at FOURTEEN** (14) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 13
Deceased – 1
** Inconclusive – 1 (Tested locally but still awaiting confirmation from CARPHA)
2. Any Caymanian (or person with the right to reside in the Cayman Islands) planning to travel on the emergency “air bridge” flight next week, will be required to be quarantined for a period of fourteen (14) days in a location provided by the Government.
- To reiterate, this incoming flight is only open to Caymanians or those persons with the legal right to reside in the Cayman Islands only. There will be no visitors/tourists on this flight.
3. The Needs Assessment Unit (NAU) will begin accepting applications from Non-Caymanian work permit holders for assistance in the form of food vouchers beginning on 1st April 2020. This assistance, when granted, will remain in place until the airport reopens and they are able to return to their native home or they are able to return to work – whichever is first.
