COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – 20 April 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              Five (5) positive cases.
-       Four (4) persons contracted through community transmission
-       One (1) person had direct contact to confirmed positive cases

As at 20th April, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is SIXTY-SIX (66) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 58 (Symptomatic – 29; Asymptomatic – 19; In-patient – 5; Clinically recovered – 5)
Recovered – 7
Deceased – 1

2.              Any persons wishing to dispute a ticket received for allegedly violating the Shelter-in-Place (Soft Curfew) Regulations, should email their concerns to the RCIPS at pr@rcips.ky.

3.              Cabinet has approved the Trade and Business Licensing (Temporary Reduction in Fee) Regulations 2020 which will:
-       Waive payment of trade and business licensing application fees from 1st May to 31st July 2020.
-       Waive late fees from 1st March to 31st July 2020 for all applicants.

4.              The proposed amendments to the Labour Law pertaining to pension contributions and withdrawals include:
-       Six (6) month contribution holiday for active pension funds with effect from 1st April 2020
-       Persons with an active pension fund will be permitted to make a one-time lump-sum withdrawal of 100% of the cumulative balance (up to CI$10,000) and 25% of any cumulative balance above CI$10,000.
-       These amendments will only apply to persons with private sector pension funds. Civil Servants contributing to the Public Service Pension are not eligible to make withdrawals.

5.              The “air-bridge” flight from the United Kingdom will arrive in Grand Cayman on 28th April and depart on 29th April 2020 (via Turks & Caicos).
Details will be published tomorrow (21st April) by the Governor’s Office regarding booking and purchasing tickets for this flight. A final decision has not been made as yet regarding transporting pets on this flight.
A military team of twelve (12) persons from the UK will arrive on this flight to support the Government in security and strategic planning.
