Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              No new positive cases.

As at 17th April, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is SIXTY-ONE (61) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 53
Recovered – 7
Deceased – 1

2.              In addition to the main telephone numbers and email address for NAU in Grand Cayman (946-0024) and Cayman Brac (948-8758), persons can now contact the office on the following numbers based on their last name and prescribed day based on the Regulations:
Last names beginning with A – K: 936-0628 or 936-1628 or 936-2628
Last names beginning with L – Z: 936-3628 or 936-4628

3.              The Nicaraguan government has chosen to close its borders today and will not receive displaced citizens. Therefore, the two Emergency Evacuation Charters to Nicaragua set to depart tomorrow (18th April) have been CANCELLED.
Any work permit holders that have been displaced due to the cancellation of this charter and require immediate assistance for the weekend, should contact 244-8000.
Cayman Airways will be contacting passengers regarding refunds.

4.              The Emergency Evacuation Charter to Canada has been confirmed for Monday 20th April 2020.

5.              Another “air-bridge” British Airways flight from the United Kingdom is being arranged for the week of 27th April 2020. This flight will bring medical equipment, including extraction kits, and a small number of Caymanians.
Details on how to purchase tickets for this flight (to the UK) will be announced early next week.

6.              There will be no press briefing held over the weekend. The next press briefing will be held on Monday, 20th April 2020.
