COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – 11 April 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing

1.              Eight (8) POSITIVE cases.
-       Two (2) patients have had direct contact to another positive patient
-       The contact tracing cannot be confirmed for the remaining six (6) patients

As at 11th April, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is at FIFTY-THREE** (53) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 46
Recovered – 6
Deceased – 1

2.              The Cayman Islands Government has agreed to sell 20,000 COVID-19 test kits to the government of Barbados at cost along with 200 dry swabs.

3.              If you possess a double-barrelled surname or two surnames, the first surname will dictate your assigned days for essential services. For example, Kasandra “DaCosta Meza”. The first surname is DaCosta and allows access to essential services on Monday/Wednesday/Friday only.

4.              Ken Dart has created a National Recovery Fund with an initial deposit of $1 million. Additionally, any funds raised and deposited from the private sector will be matched by Mr. Dart up to $4 million.
This fund, which will be managed by a board of individuals from the private sector, will provide assistance for:
-       Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
-       Individuals in distress or in need of assistance
-       Immediate economic needs
-       Long term economic needs

5.              All beaches in the Cayman Islands will be closed on Easter Monday – 13th April 2020. The Premier alluded that this closure could be extended.
If your property is on the beach, you will still be allowed to use your private property (i.e. the beach directly in front of your property).

6.              Due to the risks associated with operations, the Cayman Islands Postal Service will not be reopened in the immediate future.

7.              There will be no press briefing tomorrow (12th April) in observance of Easter Sunday.
