COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands
Update – 1 April 2020
Synopsis of CIG Press Briefing
1. EIGHT (8) POSITIVE CASES.
- One (1) with travel history and the other seven (7) with direct contact.
As at 1st April, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is at TWENTY-TWO** (22) and is broken down as follows:
Active – 21
Deceased – 1
** Inconclusive – 1 (Tested locally but still awaiting confirmation from CARPHA)

2. The Premier announced that the following measures are being explored and further announcements will be forthcoming:
- To apply the alphabetical system across the board for all purposes, not just supermarkets and banking.
- To offer soft loans through CIDB to small businesses with waivers on interest and principal payments
- To offer pension payment holidays and access to accumulated pension funds, however these require legislative changes.

3. The Premier made it abundantly clear that all social activities revolving around Easter should now be considered officially cancelled.

4. The British Airways “air-bridge” emergency flight will depart Grand Cayman on Tuesday 7th April 2020. The cost of travel will be £500.00 (US$620 or CI$517).
- For those persons in the Cayman Islands wishing to evacuate and return to the UK, please contact 244-3333 or emergencytravel@gov.ky.

5. The Health Services Authority has expressed a need for blood donors. For eligibility screening for first time donors or to receive an exemption letter for your donation, please contact the Blood Bank at HSA on 244-2674.
